Hospice of Hilo and the Suicide Prevention Task Force will sponsor a special memorial service for survivors of suicide at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Hospice of Hilo Community Building located at 1011 Waianuenue Ave.

The service is open to anyone in the community who has lost a loved one to suicide. The memorial will include a candle-lighting ceremony, music by Dennis and Christy Soares and special readings.

Monday, Sept. 8, marks the beginning of Suicide Prevention and Awareness Week in the United States.

“Losing a loved one is always incredibly difficult, and losing a loved one to suicide can be especially hard on individuals and families. We hope the memorial service can offer an opportunity for healing and hope and even a glimmer of light during a dark time,” said Hospice of Hilo Community Bereavement Counselor Cathy Hough.
